Enlarger Illumination -Cold Light Heads or Cold Cathode

These are essentially diffusion enlarger heads which use coiled cold light tube, (Fluorescent tube) rather than a conventional light bulb. Because the light from them is very blue rich, which is the area of the spectrum that B&W paper is sensitive to, the exposure is relatively short. Due to the inverse square law, this is ideal for using when making large mural prints which need a longer exposure . With this system of lighting, there is also very little heat build up which can be very beneficial with larger negatives in terms of negatives buckling or popping.
