Subverted SyntaxHowever the very characteristics that define aspects of the medium can also be subverted. An image can be made to mimic a particular syntax, and this has is particularly so with digital imaging. For instance at the height of the black boarder fad, art directors had images constructed in photoshop for publication with black boarders and frame numbers around images with formats that relate to no existing camera format. So the association of the black boarder defining the frame of the camera becomes irrelevant.
