Storage
of film
Most film has a 'date stamp' printed on the packet as
an indication of the life of the unexposed film. Film
is perishable and suffers from high temperature and humidity.
These effect the speed, colour balance, contrast and fog
level and a photographer should seek optimum storage for
best results. The life of a film can be extended by storage
in a fridge or even freezer, but remember to allow time
for the temperature to equalize before shooting or processing.
Once the film is shot it is still susceptible to damage
from heat and humidity, and many photographers will store
shot film in as colder environment as possible until processed.
Many photographers suggest that under optimum conditions
film should be processed within 72 hr of shooting.
