Where is the aperture situated in a camera lens

Mouse over to view

Because the aperture is placed at the focal point where the rays of light are crossing over it does not vignette or block the light coming falling onto the ccd or film.

So while stopping the lens down reduces the light coming falling onto the CCD or Film, it does not reduce the area of the scene projected through the lens.
