trichome: The scale or hair found on the leaves an other organs of most bromeliads; an absorptive organ

tichomes on Bromeliads can be invisible, or show as a thick white dusting, distinct silver bands, patterns or as in some Tillandsia even cover the entire plant in a silver fuzz. The trichome is not a pigment in the plant tissue, but a small cell on the surface that has the ability to uptake water and also reflect light. They can form as scales that soemtime flake off or hair like structures. They can also form on the bracts and other parts of the plant.
