May 2008

As part of the Sustainability Festival at Kernot Hall, Morwell for the 9th and 10th of May 200,  Godman has been commissioned to construct and install a large temporary installation (10.3m long - 4.1m wide and 4.2m high) - a Carbon Obscura - that reflects the GRID concept.

The work will consist of a tower that reflects the cooling tower of a coal fired generation plant. This tower has a doorway where the audience enter the darkened space, and the second space is a diminishing tunnel that represents a coal mine. The structure is covered with black opaque plastic and thousands of pin holes create drawings that let sunlight penetrate the space. As the audience enter the space they trigger a fog generator which materializes the ray of light.

Later the work may be relocated to the Latrobe Regional Gallery - Latrobe Regional Gallery
