Focus distance - Often signified by a mountain emblem for long distance shots and a flower for close up shots. The distance setting is used for portraits and scenes where the subject is some distance from the lens. The close up setting will allow the user to photograph objects up to about 50mm from the camera lens, which is very close. One problem that can occur with the close-up setting is that because the camera can focus exceptionally close to the subject, the camera or hand of the user can cast a shadow over the object being photographed.
